I don't know Boree, so cannot comment on that proposal. The sweetest smelling timber I know is Scented Rosewood aka NSW Rosewood Dysoxylum fraseranum. It is a rich, browny red timber that has some distinctive figure with ^^^^^^ in it, which I can almost see here (if I have a good imagination). I am not suggesting this with any degree of certainty but throw it in the ring as a maybe if you find it isn't Boree.

It looks very similar to WA Jam wood, smells superb, like raspberry Jam, turns wonderfully and has a lovely sheento it

What about Brigalow? It emits a pleasant smell and it's Acacia harpophylla.

I had to wait for daylight to have a look at some Sally Wattle I have - that looks awfully like it, but the colour is not quite right. The wattle I have is blacker than that, but that could be variation in the species.
Gidyea/Gidgee has a very distinctive smell, especially when green - much like stinking feet in the areas I have been in, Central and Western Qld. Brigalow smells like Brigalow and I have never forgotten it, having been raised in Brigalow country. The Sally Wattle I have smells somewhat like burnt toffee and is quite pleasant when turning. (The tearouts are not, however!)
Where it came from would help a bit to narrow down what it is not.
If all else fails call it Black Wattle or Acacia confusiosa.
Alister.
