Timber ID.....
Hey all...
Looking for some help with this timber ID. Found it under the house, it's pretty light/soft timber... very smooth after a bit of planing.
Any ideas would be welcome.
Cheers

Frithy when you smoothed the timber did it have a pungent smell to it like a western red cedar

hmm.... don't think it's pine. well not like any pine i've seen before I think it's less dense than radiata..... the different colours weren't raised before planing.

That lets western red cedar out, its soft all the way.
I'd say oregon except its normally a bit denser than radiata pine.

Yep. Oregon. Specially lying around under a house. Popular structural timber.

Thanks everyone....
From your descriptions, i'm not totally convinced it's oregon, just because of the density - the timber is quite light. But then again, I've never used oregon before..... so it's a good start for further research!
