Timber ID Help
I am milling up these rounds (yes they are not quite long enough to be called logs) for a client. The tree holds special significance to him and due to a misunderstanding between him and the tree loppers they did what they do and left the trunk as long logs like he asked I feel really sorry for him, especially seeing how nice the log would have been. It is a good job as he had the whole lot dropped to me to mill in my time.
Anyway I have no picture of the logs tonight, will get some tomorrow but here is some of the timber. It cuts really nice is light in clour but looks like it would dry darker. The bark is very thick and stringy. It is one of the eastern staters that you see planted quite a bit over here in Perth and if it is the one I think it is, I think the bark in the canopy is quite smoth and light coloured.
This timber was cut from the longest of the rounds -1.4m

Will do, is dark cold and wet out at the moment. The guy said someone told him it was Queensland Mahogony. So I am thinking maybe White Mahogony - Eucalyptus acmenoides, E. umbra ssp. umbra, E. carnea, E. tenuipes.

Here are a few more pics, the timber is beautiful, some is very pink straight off the saw, some white, and other has a coffee colour through it.

According to Qld Gov white mahogany and yellow stringybark are the same thing? Being from the other side of the island I have no idea though so maybe some locals can help out. Definitely not Qld Walnut as it is a Eucalypt.

Are you saying white mahogany and yellow stringy bark are different Carl? Which species is each of them? The QLD department site linked above says they are the same
The slab and thin board were the only ones with the brown in them, the rest is pale cream, almost pink off the saw. The bark rips up into little stringy balls when the saw runs through it.
