    Default Timber ID please

I have been rebuilding an old chest of drawers and needed some timber to use for drawer runners. I grabbed a couple of pieces out of my stash of recycled timer that had previously been door or window trims from a local house and removed the thick layer of interior paint. What a delight! The timber was hard, blond/pine coloured but tight grained and dense and has the most incredible smooth shiny surface when I ran a sharp #4 over it. Perfectly slippery for moving parts. It also had quite a sweet smell when sawn (but not s strong smell) and the tight grain meant it wasn't at all splintery like Tassie Oak or blackbutt. I have some more painted trims from the same house so might have some more to play with when I remove the paint. Presumably it was cheapish timber to find its way into that sort of use (although all sorts of weird stuff was used in early Canberra houses like silky oak skirting boards!) but I would love to know suggested species.

Could be tallow wood. Was the timber of choice for window sills.

That would explain the waxy feel but the colour? I always thought tallow wood was darker brown. Could be the sapwood I guess.

Unlikely to be sap wood as tallow sap is subject to lyctus attack. The colour does vary a lot, tree to tree.
