I actually have a few logs laying at home which look remarkably similar to your wood, no idea what pine it is though. Radiata maybe?

Thanks Guys. I was feeling very lonely for a bit. I was thinking Pinasta but the bark's all wrong. As with Radiata"s bark. It's certainly out of my knowledge base. It could be Norfolk but again: the bark?

Looks like Deodar cedar to some extent. Deodar has a sort of rat odour.

The deodar smells wet or dry but I think you have got a bit of radiata.

Tim i have a few pieces of Cypress which are identical colour and same sort of grain pattern and knots as your photo, so that's what my money is on. Also to my nose Cypress has a kind of peppery smell. FWIW i also have some Norfolk pieces and colour and grain are nothing like your sample.
