Another timber ID please
I found this in an old shed that I was helping to clear. When I machined it I realised I've never seen a timber like it before (In SA we don't have a big range of timbers readily available) I also found a 1000 X 280 X 30 (after machining) piece of what looks like cork.
Any ideas what timber this is?

I've seen European Oak with weird colouring like that, but is there any chance of some closer or higher resolution pics?

Might be some type of casuarina, dad used to call it scrub oak.

May be Mackay Cedar or Red Siris (tropical Qld wood with a very irritating dust). It usually has those yellow streaks through a coarse textured red wood. Used for furniture when available.
PS: Can't see any oak or sheaok rays, although pale streaks could be caused by spalting

Going just on the end grain, I reckon it’s a pine of some sort that has rotted or spalted.
How heavy is it?

The pore structure adds more weight to Euge's ID, its similar to New Guinea Rosewood in that respect - hard to pore fill.
I'm fairly confident that it is RSR = Red Sirus / Mackay Cedar. There are not many woods about with that mauve/purple and yellow colouration. As Euge says beware of the dust as it can (will?) cause breathing issues more so than Raintree etc, definitely not a wood to use at public wood working demos.Mobyturns

Thanks everyone for your input. I am pleased that I now know about a timber that I've never seen or experienced before. Now I'll have to work out what I'm going to do with it.
