timber identity??
I got this washstand a while ago, it has dovetails at the front and back of the drawer as well as a solid piece of pine for the drawer base instead of ply so a bit of effort went into its making. The problem is I'm not sure of the timber the main body and legs are made of, oregon maybe?? The top is very splintery as well so will require a bit of sanding to smooth it out I fear.

the legs and frame are red cedar(toona australis)the top is not original seems to be vic ash or tassie oak. the top would have originally been marble.
everything is something, for a reason:confused:

Womble,
is it local? (FNQ) It looks a lot like Tulip Oak (FNQ rainforest timber) but the thing is, I've never actually seen anything other than floors made out of it. It doesn't look like Cedar to me, unless the colour has all been stripped out due to a chemical bath (or a dodgy photo)

If you give it a bit of a sand and wet it and take a photo while it's still wet it would be easier to identify.

I'd have guessed old-growth Cypress Pine myself, from looking at the grain. Not really regular enough for Oregon.
But that's all it would be: a guess. [shrug]

I attached some more photos, I gave the top and inside of the drawer a quick sand and wet it to try to get more colour. There's also a shot of the front and back dovetails on the drawer too, very narrow pins!

might just slap some paint back on it, that'll solve the problem!

mm this ones not easy at a wild guess, top looks like maybe wakka or mackay cedar...maybe Qld maple thats just a bit worn...;-)
,,, side definalty looks like the Toona, or red cedar..
If the piece is local Qld Maple and red cedar would be normal and fine..

Womble,
Pic 4 DEFINATELY Red Cedar - Toona australis, can be pale and the grain pattern spot on.
pic 1 & 2 - look a lot like Blackwood to me although not definite...
