Default Where to Get Timber in or Near Canberra

    Hi Folks
I was wondering if anybody knew who sold nice timber in or near Canberra. I am interested in getting assorted timber for box making and some for a coffee table. Magnet Mart and Bunnings certainly don't have what I am looking for. I got a few bits at the Sydney show but don't think I can wait until Sept for the Canberra show to restock. Dressed timber would be my preference.
    Cheers

Thor's hammer in the old Yarralumla brickworks sells recycled timber. Unfortunately it's hard to just poke around for nice bits cos they sell in bulk and the various cuts and species are strapped into lots on the racks. If you want a single floor board (as I did at one stage to replace a broken one) then it will cost more than the board for the labour to find the board, remove the wood lot from the racks and get it out for you.
There is also Monaro Timber in Queanbeyan but they have the reputation of being expensive (Timber Flooring Canberra contact Monaro First) and CAA Timbers in Fyshwick (307 Canberra Ave, Fyshwick ACT 2609, Australia (02) 6297 3911) but I have never been there so can't comment on their range.
If you want timber slabs there is a guy on the south coast (Bega Valley I think) who advertises in the allclassifieds.com.au website plus another lot who have posted on the forum who sell reclaimed timber. They are also on the coast near Mogo I think.
Other than that you can join the ACT Woodguild who reclaim, cut and dry timber for the use of members. You can join for a small fee and use the facilities to dress the timber yourself.
Otherwise poke around in builder's skips like I do. Interesting stuff always turns up.

There's AJAA timbers in Queanbeyan as well.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Turners in Fyshwick is also an alternative.
I second the ACT Woodcraft Guild
    Woodcraft Guild of the ACT
They often have some very good timber at very reasonable prices.

There's a guy that has a lot of timber for sale on Sulwood Drive (Near Kambah), he usually has his truck parked on the side of the road with a heap of week on display so you can't miss him.

I haven't check any of his stuff out yet though...
