IWCS wood samples
Hi Sambo
I have been a member of IWCS for many years (IWCS 4686 HL) and can tell you its a excellent organisation to belong to to learn about and collect wood (for any purpose).
There is a very active IWCS group in Adelaide who meet and exchange ideas, wood etc often. Like most established members, I have many spare ref samples (like most members) and most of us exchange or sell such samples (now called specimens) or books on trees or woods. I assume you are in active contact with them.
Common names are sometimes created for commercial purposes (help them sell), others are based on, or are corruptions of indigenous names. One of our members Morris Lake has edited and produced a booklet on common names of Australian trees and shrubs. See directory for contact details. If you contact him he may have some left. There is a PNG supplier of woods around somewhere. I think he was based in Adelaide. May have folded now.
PM me if you are interested in info or in IWCS samples std size or for eggs.
