    Default tongue and groove

Hi, can any tell me if it is possible to restore tongue and groove, I have some as the ceiling and some as the walls of an old house. I was told that it is virtually impossible to take the old paint off and get its bare look again. Is this true? can anyone refer me to information that could help as I am finding it difficult to find. Thanks

The easy way is to rip if off the walls/ceiling and run it through a thicknesser (you will probably go through sharp blades pretty quickly).

You could try using a belt sander, but it would be a bugger of a job and very messy.

Also be careful as there may be a layer or two of lead based paint on it.
    Cheers.

Paint stripper and a sander for the flat surfaces and a vee scraper for the grooves.

I ran a painted piece of timber thru my thicknesser once. 3 ft and the blade was blunt. Now I remove the paint 1st
Don't force it, use a bigger hammer.

Timber is what you use. Wood is what you burn.

If they have shrunk over the years leaving gaps you need to remove them and strip each one individually by hand. No more gaps only does half a job.

There is no easy way to get a good looking job.

My old house has ceilings just like that, so I fitted plasterboard over top of the lining boards. Now I have nice smooth clean ceilings without spiders and dust

    Hi,
I used a fishtail burner on the bbq bottle, with scraper. Found this method much quicker, quieter and not much dust. Got whole lounge back to bare timber.

Also with this method, once the paint was off, a quick sand and all was done.

I had carpet on floor and fibro over for the paint falling down. Other fire safety precautions were in place and I had no incidents.

    cheers,

    Sand-blast it in-situ.
