Treating (with something) untreated pine
Folks,
I have some untreated pine I'd like to use outdoors as a beam. Does anyone know:
1. what the best treatment is that I an give it (CCA not being available to public); and
2. Is it worth it to even bother? I'd want 15-20 years out of it.
I'm thinking something like flood-coating it with Fungishield 3 or 4 times and then painting with Weathershield (3 coats).
Any advice much appreciated.
Ben

If it's not going to be in contact with the ground, a decent few coats of paint is as good as anything, and maybe some of the soak-in water repellent on the end grain before painting.
If it's in contact with the ground...just buy some already treated! (H4)

painted untreated pine works fine outside, so long as it doesn't get damp - eg from contact with the ground or water accumulating in joints. Really good paint which you keep well maintained plus no damp will mean it should outlive you

Good Morning Ben
Wood rot is actually a fungus eating the wood, and fungus need moist conditions to live.
I do not know the Fungishield product, but I regularly use Taspaints T888 fungicide. You just paint it on and keep applying more as it soaks in, keeping the surface wet all the time. Once it dries then additional coats cannot soak in. Then keep it well painted, especially on the end grain.
Cheers
