    Default Tree ID Please

Another request for species ID of a tree. Have done endless net searches without success.

Currently about 7m tall, grows about 1m per year. Crushed leaves smell like slightly fermented oranges. Berries are about 18mm long.

    Just guessing.....Acacia Fimbriata?
The mention of the growing rate sounds like it. As I said, just guessing.
Of course I'm brave, I'm afraid of NO man, and only a few women.

Looks like a Pittosporum undulatum. Do the seed pods open like little mouths, bearing many red seeds in a sticky substance?

Yep Pittosporum undulatum. Tends to get borer in it a bit. I would classify it as a pioner species really - not too long lived and 8 -10 m probably max height.

Thanks for the ID guys, appreciate knowing what the tree is.

Seems it's an excellent carving/turning wood, so it's fate is decided
    No evidence of borer yet.

flynnsart - Yes seed pods contain red sticky seeds

Bleedin Thumb, can I ask what reference books you use?

Outback ...didn't need to for that one... they're as common as muck..as the old lady would say. I do have a very good library of Hort/Botanical books.

For rainforest's I recommend Ornamental Rainforest plants in Australia by David L. Jones. He also has a good palm book and Australian Ferns and their Allies by Jones & C S Clemesha.

It would take too much typing to list them all, if there is a particular ecosystem or plant type that you want to get to know PM me and I'll see if I can recommend a book.
