Kwila shouldn't need staining, it darkens with age, oils also darken it. Not sure you'd get the same grain pattern, unless it's decent stuff though. The wood show is on in Bris starting tomorrow, someone there might have some Blackwood. I have some but mainly big chunks and sometimes cracked

If you need some rubberwood, check out your local op shop or council tip shop. A lot of the furniture imported in Australia is made of rubberwood and you'll get it for cheap. It's going to sound terrible, but you could even buy a new item on sale for less than the equivalent cost of blackwood boards. Look for plantation hardwood or rainforest hardwood - it'll never be sold as rubberwood.
