Default Trying to find good wood/timber/lumber, good prices in Perth

    Hello Everyone!

I'm new to the forum, I've been searching for a thread that talks about where to find good quality timber/wood/lumber in Perth areas. I didn't have much luck, therefore I started my own.

So to get to the point, I've been searching online and I found a few such as austim, all woods, colli, etc. Any other I should aware of?

    Cheers

    Sam

    Hi Sam,

Gumtree is often a good place to find decent timber and good prices. Just depends on what you want. I've found a few good bargains on gumtree.

    Hello Mate
Goggle 'Derek Doak, the Timber Bloke', he is the first person I would look to if I wanted to buy some timber. Have a look at his website. You must ring beforehand as he often sleeps in, knocks off early etc. Like a public servant

If you don't mind pulling a few nails and re-cycling timber, then keep an eye out for any house etc that is being demolished. I've found the demolisher is only to happy to let you help yourself as it reduces their dumping costs.

Derek and also Perth Wood School for more unusual stuff. Carbatec occasionally has small amounts of unusual wood in. Really wish i knew where to get more options. Even ordering from over east would be fine, but doesnt seem like many sites have online ordering for wood in Aus

    Default Wood in Perth Area

    Hi Sam,
What sort of wood are you after.

Over the past ??? years I have accumulated a lot of different timber for restoration and/or manufacturing.

    I have some 150 x 150 European oak plus many other sizes and 150 x 150 and 100 x 100 Toona calantas.

It is found in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. It is commonly known as kalantas (also spelled calantas), Philippine cedar, or Philippine mahogany and very similar to Australian Red cedar.

I will expect some abuse from certain woodies, but I bought this some 25 years ago as an alternative to Australian Cedar when I had to repair some early colonial antique table legs of Australian Cedar for an antique dealer. You could not buy Cedar in that size and now of course it is rarer still.

I have also some small pieces of Park Elm which has very highly figured birdseye.

Also have some 180 x 180 Merbau with lock mitre edges if you want to make some 180 x 180 hollow columns, or they would make great stair treads (180 by 38).

Left over from a development in Margaret River.

Also some walnut and fruit-wood veneers

    Give me a ring on 0403 255 100
