    Default Type Of Pine ?

This sample looks like a pine and is different from the other aussie and OS pines i have. I got it locally, someone gave it to me, said it was tamarind but that tree is a dark wood, this one is fairly light, even golden.

Its light and strong, similar consistency to kauri pine.....multi hued grain with little flecks and hard globs of gum...it has little to no scent, finsihes easily and is not splitty at all.

The sample shows 2 sides one oiled the other natural....the other image is the log end...

I was thinking maybe pencil pine or a variant of yellow pine..

    any input appreciated...

    thanks

    Reeves,
The trunk looks like Slash pine, Pinus elliotti I seem to remember. But it usually has a fairly pungent smell, especially when freshly cut. How long has the log been down?

    Cheers

Looks like Carribean pine to me, had a few logs milled up some years ago.

ok i 'll cut another bit, the smell i have is faint and a bit citrusy like a pine.

It may have been cut a fair while, its totally dry, John Ryan had it in his shed...he has bits of wood everywhere...i was thinking it may have been local..but he didnt know where it came from.could have been cut from a garden tree or whatever...i was wondering if its a US or other wodd how it came to be in Ravensbourne..will try and suss it out..

    Cheers
