    Default Type of wood

    Hi guys,

I'm a total timber dunce and I bought an old dresser from Vinnies. Its probably circa 1930-1940's. The wood is stained of course and there is a film of dirt on top of it from years of usage. It's quite heavy too, which probably means its a hard wood of some description.

I have some photos (albeit poor ones), so I'm after some opinions. Scuse the mess...

(Thanks artme for the headsup on the photos not embedding - lets try this again)

I'll take a stab- I'm right at least 50% of the time and those bad, bad photos make it a daring game of chance that I just can't pass up...

Drawer fronts look like walnut veneer, rear of frame looks to be maple.

Top could possibly be aust hardwood/tas oak that they have picked and stained dark to blend with the drawers depending on quality of the furniture but judging from the drawer fronts it'd be likely.

I can almost see under the typewriter but there's too much dust.

If it was painted brown that's what I'd be guessing would be underneath anyways...

    Cheers,
    Garth

Cheers Garth. I haven't given you much and this isn't CSI Miami! I've added a couple more, slightly better photos.
I haven't cleaned the dust off tho....
