Default What type of wood is this?

I picked this wood up from my grandpa's garage. It is about 12cm wide, 1.8mm thick.
It is quite shiny, and also light, but I have no idea what sort of wood it is, or if it will be suitable for building with. My dad thinks it is some kind of Malaysian Mahogony...

Any tips, even on the type of wood, are great.

As you can see, the pictures are decieving. One picture has the wood bright orange, whilst another is duller. Picture it to be between those two colours.

A problem with the wood is that it is a bit bowed, possibly from laying down for a long time. Will the bend dissappear once the lenghts have been glued together and clamped, or will they continue to be a problem?

What sort of ash would you say it might be?

Was talking to my grandpa, whose wood it was, and he reckons it might be some sort of mahogany. He is getting a little old though, and his memory isnt quite what it used to be, but it could be a bit of a starting point maybe?

Lay timber bowed side up and add weight.
