Unknown black hearted tree. NSW
G'day everyone. I was just at my property near Barrington tops NSW and had a dead tree across a track there. When I started sawing it to clear it I noticed a very dark heartwood. Just wondering what it could be? I brought a few logs home to put on the table saw. This was at Craven plateau at about 700 above sea level a mostly steep, south facing rainforest location.
Thanks in advance. Travis

Welcome to the forum Travis.
The pressure is on for pics, pls.
You might have to add a couple of 'social' posts before posting.
I think there is a low min # before pics allowed.

Pics of the leaves, fruits or flowers and bark can all be helpful for ID.
Good quality pics too to help those who stick their necks out with names. Euge

Is this the same as what was posted by Allana on the FB Woodtturners of Australia page?

Why make restrictions on new members? For a genuine woodworker i don't need any more hassles in my life but this forum seems to make it a bit harder than most other forums.

Looks more like black wattle to me rather than black bean.
Our black wattle is very susceptible to grub damage like yours as well.
Of course I could easily be wrong

Thanks for your replies. It has certainly narrowed it down. Next time im at the property I'll have a look on the ground for the seed pods. There is a huge dead tree in a gully that I have spotted, looks like it has dried pods all over it. Itll be interesting to see if it is a blackbean tree. Its big enough to mill with the chainsaw
