Sometimes Lazariedes have specials with the m3 rate.

Can't help exactly but can give you ballpark prices ex QLD mill for similar species. These will be KD, select grade, ex mill gate FNQ, and would not include GST.
Minor Species... kauri, quandong, etc $1250m3
BSW/ Qld blackwood... $1300 - 1500
QLD Maple, Maple silkwood, bolly silkwood etc... $2k m3
Silky Oaks... usually Northern silky but fishtail, crater etc all about the same .... $2500- 3000 m3
Red Cedar, Caledonian Oak... 3 to 5k a cube. Cedar can be all over the place though depending very much on grade and colour.

Highly figured stuff will go dearer, and add a premium for wide boards.
Add an extra $200 for 1 1/2", or an extra $300 for 2" thick.

This at least should give you an idea of what it would cost to buy similar types of material, and a lot of these timbers or their close botanical relatives are also native to PNG.

The only species we know is there with any certainty is the New Guinea Red Cedar but I'll keep an eye out for the Brown Pine. My old man often mentioned Brown Pine but when he died and I had to sort out his shed out I didn't find any among his collection - is it that good???

Black and/or Brown pine was ( and I say was because it's now like the proverbial $h!t from wooden horses) quite prized. Nice figure, good to work, fine grained and takes a polish well etc etc. There's still some Black pine comes out of PNG occasionally but I'd imagine it would be an "order and wait till we get some" job. We get the odd one come through, though never with much size to them.
The problem with oddball stuff like that is even those it's prized, it's can be difficult to find a buyer at times because you just don't get enough of it to actually do more then a single piece of furniture, and it becomes a question of "Do I cut this one small log in sizes to suit making a chair... a hallstand... a wardrobe?" Can't season it till it's cut, can't sell it till it's seasoned yada yada and you can guarantee that if I cut it all into inch someone some day will say I'd take it if it there was some inch and a half. I've got a shed full of oddball stuff like that.

I've got a mate who'd like some true quartersawn brown pine for a violin belly.

Sorry - no Brown Pine John.G There's about 1.5 to 2m3 of Red Cedar in mainly 3"x2" and 8"x2" about 8 metres long and about 2.5 to 3m3 of Klinkii Pine in 6"x4" to 8"x4" billets, 6.5metres long. The cedar is much darker than other PNG cedar I've seen but it's very light and open-grained - must have grown very fast!. We decided to put in an offer from our club for the whole lot and then we can use it for club projects/challenges or buy what we want back from the club as need be. All sounds good except we could open the packs up to find nothing more than dust Found white-ants had eaten out the end of one of the 8"x4" cedar billets and the guys don't think any of it has ever been treated - good chance it's all just a stack of 'shells' - will find out on saturday if they accept our offer

the Klinkii Pine sounds interesting post us a pic of it if your clubs offer gets accepted as i may be interested in a bit

I have a few decent branches of a pine the three lopper gave me once that grew locally. It was very dense for a pine had a black centre and white sapwood. Someone from the club identified it as Black Pine.

Is that the same thing as the Black Pine referred to? Not at home anymore, so can't take a photo.

Offer was accepted and we collected the timber today. Fortunately the ants hadn't touched the cedar but we lost close to 1/2 a cube of the Klinki Pine - 100x200 to 300 wide, 6500 long and as hollow as balloons Had to go through it all billet by billet checking for the ants, dock them to 4m for storage, load the 4m lengths on the truck and the rest on a ute - fair bit of work and we only lost one player! Club president fell off the truck, landing on his shoulder with a 6"x4" landing on him - arm in a sling now but he'll live
