    G'day echnidna,

Making veneer from green timber is standard practice in the industry.
Brims peel green logs all the time & produce beautiful veneered ply from the process.
It's usually dried, with degree of moisture present so as to limit spliting, in a special infra-red heat kiln. It's a pretty quick process as the veneers are thin but I have not been privy to exactly how it's done.
    Cheers

I presume the same applies to sliced veneers. I was given backboards thet had been kiln dried after the veneers were cut, so presumably the veneers were cut green. Hope this helps.
