Hey Dingo, USPS is the way to go, gonna cost $59USD for shipping so all up it'll be $169 usd. Think i'm gonna have a look around Aus for a similar package but my hopes are low (as that was the only thing of it's kind I found in north america after much searching). I don't think a deal could be got on shipping but they may give one on the collection itself so PM me if yer gonna go for it and i'll do likewise !

Hidden Costs
I think this may be rather problematic.
Importing anything wood into Australia requires fumigation, certification, and/or quarantee when it arrives. UPS will know this and likely will refuse to deliver.

I brought in some boards of walnut, cherry etc, from the US and they were let straight in. I think fumigation etc, only applies to logs with bark on them, dirty wood, etc. As long as the wood is clean and contains no insects, eggs, etc., it's no problem.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

I bought a mess of veneer from the USA off ebay and had no probs at all 14 turnaround... customs did open the box but left a nice wee note saying "no probs" and repackaged it beautifully
The bloke was brilliant the offer was for 54sqft of Hickory but after a few emails back and forth he threw in a fair whack of Black Walnut Elm Cherry Maple (various) Eucalypt and several other species... these were not the tiny shyte one gets of Aussie ebay (12in x 3in) but bloody long lengths... the hickory was 20 lengths of 10ft long x 14in wide the Black Walnut was 15 lengths at 14ft x 8in and 12 lengths at 5ft x 18in... and so on well and truely worth the cost of approx $120 delivered.
So if this proves to expensive I will go back to the bloke in the states and get more... come to think on it Ebays open all hours I think I will go now!!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

How did you get it sent to you mate, 10 and 14 foot lengths - are we talking sea freight?

Hi there Clinton... he packaged it up by laying it all down largest first (with some black plastic and bubble wrap under it) and smallest last and rolling the lengths and fitting it into a box then stuffed the box full of bubble wrap... and some of those little styrofoam balls then sealed it up and sent it UPS surface
Great deal and am presently buying some more Maple Cherry and Black Walnut direct from him... Im still having probs getting any Ebony (wouldnt mind some timber as well as the veneer)
Interestingly he was one of the few who was pro active in wanting to send it downunder the others became quite extreme with their postage rates anything from 30 up to 50 USD... and one rather narkey bloke even quoted $98US to Melborne (the capital of west aus right? ) some scared the bloody buggary out of me with the price of the items at $10US and postage of up to $98 to Aussie.. But with this bloke I get it from it was enjoyable process all in all and a nice bloke to go with it!
I dont buy veneers from anyone in Aus... tiny pieces at high prices... value for money in this instance means x US that simpleBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

And frankly, though it's a pain in the butt and adds to import costs, I'm in favour of avoiding contamination to our native timber reserves from imported pests.

Thanks Shane.
As for quarrantine, I've had a little experience here. AQIS will let it through untreated, depending on: the country of origin, the surface treatment used (as in varnish/paint...), a visual of the surface, and probably a few other things.
In the case of veneers, I would expect that if the surfaces show no sign of insect damage, that they would probably let it through. Also drying of the timber is an aid to getting it thorugh, green wood is a no no.
If there is bark, seeds, holes in the surface and so on then it would be fumigation.

Veneer supply
Azza,
There is a place in (Sydney) Pennant Hills on pennant Hills road that sells all types of veneers, not sure of the name now but would be easily found. They have quite a variety of sheet veneers.
