I have never worked with either Wandoo or Tuart but have seen both.
Wandoo is reputed to be so hard it makes Jarrah seem like balsa wood by comparison.
Tuart is a cream/brown wood, a bit like Marri in colour. It is said to be nice to work with and I have been looking for some for a particular project. If I can get away, I might just be at the auction.
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

Robert... Tuart is a cream wood... dont know yet how it will come up when finished with varnish or french polish as Im not quite there with the new coffee table which is a 4ft 5in x 2ft 8in x 1 1/2in slab {should be done inside the week!} but its definiantly cream to white... sorta dirty pine look... oh how do I know? well Ive still got probably 4cb out the front in stacks!! and Tuarts harder than Jarrah by the by from what Ive managed to find out and the table saw agrees ... difficult to work since it has a tendency to split out and chip like heck but once finished should be a pretty wood I think... well we will know shortly when the table is done the contrasts with the Jarrah legs and Sheoak rails should show its color to good effect... also when drying it has this tendency to split shake twist and move all over the place!
Oh and if your coming up this way Mandurah give me a hoi and I'll give you a nice chunk to take back with you Were planning on moving shortly and I cant take it all with me {just the best bits! } so Id rather give a mate a hand than leave it behind for some neanderthal with no timber experience knowledge or appreciation have it
OR!!! You can help us locate another property down that way and we will move and you can have as much as you want in exchange for some Marri Wandoo or whatever you have to hand! Coool or what!!!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Well, come on guys, don't be shy ....did anyone go to the auction??? Any bargains to gloat over?
I had a quick look at the online catalogue - although quite a few of the lots seemed to be logs, it also looked like there was a good variety of small packs of less common timber ....noticed there was even some Snotty Gobble! Rather peeved I couldn't make it.

Yep made it to the auction but constrained the purse and only came away with 1/2 cube of Sheoak in 30mm board ($390)but very wet ,have spent the better part of the last couple of days reducing to 25mm and putting in stick.
Some good lots of logs went particularly Jarrah, some Karri, and a couple of lots of Sheoak logs of which one lot were crappy the other reasonable.
There were quite a few jarrah burls offered up ranging from $75- 700 bloody huge some of them.
Jarrah logs went for Approx $100-150 tonne weight.
Some Curly/birdseye naturally attracted more.
I think the biggest pile of Jarrah logs drew a a final bid of $6000
Apparently there will be further auctions by the Forrest Commission so keep your eyes open.

Jarrah and other assorted wood
Hi guys,
I am presently handling my recently deceased fathers estate - he had built up a quite large inventory of different timbers ( he was a mad keen hobbie furniture maker). I was going through some of the stuff the other day and there is some large section jarrah beams and columns that were left over from an old (~1930s) railway siding that he pulled down a few years ago. Some of the sections are around 200x200 square, a variety of lengths. Any thoughts of how best we may sell etc.

Some of the BB members hereabouts would be interested. You can post something in the Buy/Swap/Sell section. "Outback" (Grant) is looking for some jarrah and is coming over this way shortly.

Yeh, I'd surely be interested. If you can let me know some details of exactly what you have I'd be more than happy to peruse your offering.
