Default Has anyone here from WA bought from Plysupply before?

Plywood Suppliers Perth, WA - Ply Supply

Noticed this company pop up a while ago and they seem to sell furniture grade plywood a lot cheaper than anywhere else in the state does. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with their products because 18mm Birch Ply for $80/sheet sounds awfully nice when other places quote $250 for Birch ply. I think their birch ply is Big River Group S/BB Birch while other places like Plyco sell a different A/B or B/B one, so I'm unsure if there's any functional differences between them.

Really interested to know if anyone has some experience with them.

Yeah actually I have bought their Birch plywood a couple of times in the last 2-3 months. Figured for $80 a sheet it was worth giving it a go.

I'm only a novice hobbyist, but I thought it was fairly decent for the price. A couple of sheets had a bit more bow than I might have liked, but I thought it was overall better than all the full size sheet stock at Bunnings, except the marine A/B.

I've used it to build some new cabinets with doors to hang clothes. Cuts finished nicely with the rip blade and little to no tearout. The finish cuts were almost perfect with the finer blade. Like I said I'm a novice, and found I did get tearout with drilling pocket hole screws, and the layers of hardwood noticeably changed the speed of the drill cut. The screws had a good solid bite and didn't have any issues with the bond in any of the sheets.

I personally really like the contrasting dark acacia with the lighter birch face. So refitted my robe with a series of open edge shelves showing the ply edge with a Birch face surround. Just sanded down smooth and left it raw.

The faces are BB I think. There were a couple of sections with noticeable veneer breaks or mismatch veneer which just went to an unseen surface. But the vast majority of the face veneers were good quality with some nice features. There were a small number of knots, but nothing to write home about. It was easy to grain match a couple of my mistakes from remaining stock I had. I went right to 240 for most of it and only had to drop to 120 for a couple of rough areas.

Seems to finish well too. I went right to 240 for most of it and only had to drop to 120 for a couple of rough swirly parts.

I took some surplus stock and made myself a sample of glued-up patterned plywood, just to see the process and how it would finish. I rushed the sanding and preparation a little and didn't get it as smooth as I would have liked. I left one side of the glued panel natural and stained the other side. I hit it with 3 coats of poly/linseed mix which it took real nice, and then another 3 coats of wax/linseed to finish it off. It actually highlighted a fair bit of chatoyancy on the ply, but I can't seem to cature that in photos.

But yeah, I thought it was pretty good value and I'll be buying more from them.
