    I also pulled apart a wardrobe from my late uncle's place that was made from solid timber with very similar colouring. My suspicion is that it was Tas myrtle as also suggested by Bendigo Bob

    Tasmanian Myrtle was my initial reaction due to it's pink/red colour and apparent "shimmer", My only hesitation is that the grain may be a little too pronounced in places. Perhaps if you post photos of the full pieces and the end grain it will help with the identification.

    +1 for Kauri. Both Kauri & Hoop were common secondary woods on old furniture. Doesn't fit for Hoop (the smell would confirm if Hoop, very characteristic), so if it's reasonably dense my vote goes to Kauri.
