    Default Western Rosewood score

    There were no decent desert timber available at Proserpine Turnabout so have been looking about for available sources, after all my trailer is only half full . I found a fencer in Mackay that had a heap of rosewood logs in his yard, but unfortunately most was part of an order already sold, and the rest I could see only good for firewood.

    As the order still hadn't been paid for and well overdue, he decided to sell me a couple of lengths (~4-5m long rails) and cut in half for me, then he also showed me a pile of older stuff he thought might be Ok for turning (no good for fencing) and said help myself . This stuff is really heavy so I did have to hold back as the trailer can only take so much . Ended up taking 6 1/2 tray lengths and he helped me load it up.

    Spent this morning cutting them all up into 400-700 lengths with my small chainsaw to fit into the spaces I have in the trailer. I then sealed each end with 2 coats of log sealer ready to take home .

    He said ring ahead next time, as he is often out of town, and he would ensure he had heaps. I suggested he should load up his truck and visit Proserpine Turnabout next year

    I guess one too many pieces of rosewood . Both A-frame members are bent, one actually broke at a bolt hole as I went down the dirt road to my camp, lucky held together whilst I was on the highway . If both had snapped whilst doing 100kph it would have been a real mess , the trailer would have dug in, then its contents catapulted into the camper/car

    Locals tell me there is a good welder at the local mechanical shop down the highway 5kms away. I've unloaded the rosewood, plus all the tools previously located at the front of the trailer, and used 2.5t ratchet straps to try and reinforce it. Shoulde be a relativly easy fix, just need some more steel to reinforce the A-frame and its joint to the trailer sub-frame, and a good welder

    There must be quite a weight in that. You didn't get greedy did you? If you're gunna keep this up you might aswell bite the bullet and get a truck.

    At Flaggy Rock, 100kms south of Mackay, but found an engineering mob to fix it within 20kms (out in a cane field off the main road - works by reputation and employs 3 others). Should be done tomorrow

    Yes, I would love one, especially with a lift/drop rear panel , but I'm retired now so don't have the $'s.

    I estimate it was only 300kgs, light compared with the 500kgs of timber I brought back from WA (plus I had extra equipment then too), but obviously the 40,000kms I have traveled have taken their toll on the trailer. I was thinking of building another larger dual axle one when I got back, but with all the mods I have done with this one, I doubt I can afford it now.
