    Default Wet Quilted Blackwood

I just got a beautiful piece of quilted blackwood from Jason in Tassi. It’s 50mm thick and freshly cut (wet). When it’s dry I plan to use it for a jewellery box so I’m wondering if it would be safe to rip it down to 15mm thick boards now in order to speed up the drying time or should it be when the full block is dry?

    Thanks, Peter

I ripped some wet Blackwood down a few weeks back and strapped it down to a thick bit of timber with stickers in between each board to stop it wandering. Seems to be working fine. A lot of luthiers do this also.
