    Default white ant longevity?

    Hi folks,
I have a question, How long can white ants live without the nest? I was of the understanding that is they will die once seperated from the nest?
I milled this Cypress Mac back in mid March, I knew that one small area of the tree was affected, (its not the first cypress I have seen white ants in), I figured they would die off I made a point of putting the affected pieces at the top of the pile about 6ft from the ground. Low and behold 7 months on and there are still live buggers in there!

Maybe you could stack it with something nice and soft so they take a preference? Maybe a yummy piece of radiata or Douglas Fir. Good Nanna food for Whiteants.

    Or surface spray it.

Or stack it on a an ant hill (they'll kill the termites).

Well I thought they dies without the colony, but how long the live after it, that I don't know. I also thought termites didn't like Cypress

Is that bug in the top left side supposed to be a termite, just I can't see any legs?

I thought they would die off too, I doused the timber with a bit of turps after a cut it and seen the buggers, that was one that crawled out and thats as far as it made it, Yes I also used to believe they wouldnt touch cypress, I have come across them in cypress mac a few times I dont think they really like it but they will still have a go, Whilst repping in the timber industry I had a builder get me to inspect termite damage in "Cypress Gold" posts . Normally I would drown them as soon as I see them or evidence of them, might keep doing that in future
