    Default white ceder

I've been told this is a white ceder tree but I've never heard of white ceder before. I was taken on the Sunshine coast Queensland, can any one confirm if it is white ceder or if white ceder exists please.

    Hi SB
Hard to tell from photo folage looks similar but shape not right a close up of leaves and bark would help. White cedar pale mauve flowers in spring yellow berries in autumn and decidious, hope that helps.

This is a white cedar. As you can see, in my neck of the woods (sth NSW) they are in full flower at the moment. And the clear finished wood.

Yep, that's it. My Council plans to cut down about 100 of these trees because they have entered their decay phase. Assuming a fairly high wastage rate, would it be worth trying to organise salvaging the wood?

Yes, Our woodies group milled a white cedar tree that was blown down in a back yard, two slabs and a table top attached.
Difficult to finish sap tends to bleed, need to seal shellac.

    Default White Cedar

Yep that looks a lot like white cedar
It is a spreading deciduous tree growing to 15m tall with leaves composed of
    many leaflets 20-50mm long.
It produces abundant sprays of fragrant flowers followed by many hard yellow
berries 10-20 long. These are poisonous to children and stock and distributed
    by birds, {in short a weed.}

    ps, Nice train.

Can't tell from your pic but if you've seen it up close you can compare it to the pics on my website here.

David your 'white cedar' is cedrus deodar, which is a true botanical cedar. The deciduous flowering white cedar is 'melia azedarach' (not that I am familiar with the name) and the wood looks like a blond australian red cedar.

No offense Len, but there is no way that tree in Davids pic is in the pinaceae family - looks nothing at all like cedrus deodar

No, I think Len is right. He is referring to Davids photos of table and slabs (deodar cedar in my opinion also). But as for the original question, I don't think that tree looks like white cedar.

I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned the caterpillars that live in them and their cocoons that they build in every conceivable place in nearby buildings.
