    Default Wide boards in SA

Does anyone know where I can get some wide boards in SA for making bee hives. Needs to be 250x25 mm rough for finished 243x22mm. Radiata of hoop pine or anything not too heavy really. Cost needs to be low to make it viable over buying ready made boxes.
    Thanks

I used to buy a fair bit from down Murray bridge way, cant remember the name of the place but shouldn't be too hard to find, another is Wirrabara timber preservations" they deal in pine treated and untreated, there is also the Jamestown saw mill, should be in the phone book, may be able to do up an order for you!

    Thanks,

I had tried Jamestown, but he was close to what I can buy them for ready made. They need 2metres for each box, and retail around the $17 - $20 mark, depending on the timber. I was hoping to get it well down on this, closer to $5m and do my own machining.

may i suggest that you try to use 19mm finsh as this is more common,

and if there is going to a large volume you could consider laminating a few boards to get the width

The standard is based on the Langstroth Hive for about 150 years and uses 22mm, so all parts are interchangeable, so it is a problem to change them. The internal measurement is the most important because it is calculated on bee space. If I change the outer measurement, it allows water to sit on some surfaces if I interchange pieces.
I have considered laminating, but prefer to use a single piece for longevity due to them being in all weather.

my brother used to buy a fair bit from a place just on the way into town just past the whitehorse inn, I'm not exactly sure where but it wasn't that far from there, my brother doesn't like the traffic of the smoke so he wouldn't go too far in, seemed to be cheap but I think it may already be machined to standard, I would try Dave at Wirrabara Timber Preservations, give him a ring on (08) 8668 4287 or (08) 8668 4197 after hours, tell him Dave sent you! he should have some of that big stuff left, be quick or I'll go and buy it all! apart from that I'm empty
    G'day I'm Dave!
