Default Wondering what timber this is??

    Hi there guys

It has been ages. So much has changed!!

My manager is in the process of cutting a fallen tree and bought in a chunk of it. I have no idea what it is and am hoping some of you might be able to shed some light.
It is really dense and heavy. Was located in lower blue mountains.

    Thanks in advance all.

Heavy, dense and with a nice red/pink grain... My bet is Sydney blue gum, but I'd wait for the seasoned woodworker to chime in. I'm a bit of a noob.

Looks a bit like turpentine (Syncarpia glomulifera) from the colour, bark and location but it could be a stringy barked eucalypt species. We'd have to see the leaves, fruits, buds etc to get any firmer on an ID.

The bark makes me think turpentine also.

    Hi all

Thank you for your replies - we have had a couple of others in the trade think that it was Turpentine also so I think we have a winner

So good to have a great resource such as this to help .

As to size my manager said that the section was about 25 foot. This was an already fallen tree and previous owners had cut it up at the first fork. It is about 16 inches round and fairly straight. He is going to make good use of it me thinks.

    Thank you again.
