Another wood ID help
A mate bought a butchers block but the legs were all rotted out. He wants to try replace with same species if he can. The photo's are off one of he legs after planing back all the crap that has accumulated after 30 odd years.
Timber is fairly light for size. Some thoughts were maybe cedar??? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Looks like some Sydney Blue Gum I've used but I wouldn't have described it as light? Doesn't look like any Cedar I've seen though.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

To me it looks like basic old blue gum or something along those lines, very doubtful that it's red cedar

wood id
Thanks guys,
I was very doubtful that it was cedar. Didn't even think of meranti, but think that could be a winner.
Thanks again.
