    Question WOOD ID - What is this timber?

    Just looking for an ID on this Timber. I found it down the road from my house and its going free to anybody willing to carry it.

    By the colour of the wood and I reckon it might be a birch. The leaves match aswell. Still a guess.

    I'd go with birch as well, probably Downy, or White Birch Betula pubescens Ehrh. (syn. Betula alba) [Betulaceae].
    Certainly the bark matches Wiki's description: 'smooth but dull grey-white bark finely marked with dark horizontal lenticels'.
