Yellow box/yellow gum/ white iron bark?
Hi all just wondering if I could get an honest kind of appraisal on some big logs that I have ( one in particular)? Can post some pics in a day or two. My dad in law says the farm mainly has red box red gum yellow gum yellow box and white iron bark and we are in the grampians region. Would rather see it being used than burning in the fire

The Yellow Box & Ironbark are, IMHO, the best woods for a fire... if you rely on one. Long burning, "clean" soot & high temp output. One log of it'll burn as long as four or five "lesser" woods, so it's an economical timber too! (We've just spent $700 on 4 cube of the stuff, mainly Yellow Box. )
However, having said all that, I also reckon that the Box's and Ironbark make for glorious furniture and my "project timbers pile" often grows at the expense of the firewood pile. All three tend to be mongrel stuff to work, especially when highly figured (they're often fiddlebacked) and can be hell on your tools, but are often well worth the effort if you persist.
I'm not too keen on Yellow Gum myself... too prone to splintering in a big way... but then again I'm not too sure that what I call Yellow Gum is the same as what you call Yellow Gum.
(This is all purely my opinion, of course! )

Do you want to sell as logs, or do you intend cutting them up, if so into slabs or lumber? They will not be dry, even if they are standing dead, so when cut they will need to be stacked and dried.
If as logs, you probably aren't going to get more than it is worth as firewood, but they would last a lifetime as furniture rather than just providing a few nights warmth. Hopefully some local millers may get in touch.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Well I was thinking as entire logs one is absolutely huge maybe four or five feet across the butt. We sell a little bit of firewood and weren't sure if it would be a little more profitable for us selling it for furniture instead
