Alternatives to 2000 Workcentre???
Embarking on a good sized project soon and thinking of adding the TRITON 2000 workcentre & large sliding extension table to my stable of orange equipment
But before biting the bullet and spending the money does anyone have alternative suggestions to this Triton product ? I like to consider alternatives although the little I've found so far seem to be rather cumbersome and not obviously easy to transport.
I will (should be) needing to cut quite a bit of 8' x 4' ply plus other sundry pieces of timer.... supplemented of course by my versatile orange router table with most of the attachments..etc"May your dreams of today

If you want portable and a sliding table - none. I recently bought a Jet table saw, but I'm keeping the Triton as it is really good for breaking down full sheets of ply. It folds up reasonably compactly and just lives in a corner of my garden shed.
What the Triton doesn't do is dadoes (at all) or angled & mitre cuts with ease. You can do the mires & angle cuts with a SCMS, but again a decent one will cost as much as the Triton or more. If you get the Triton see if you can get the Triton training TAPES via interlibrary loan - I think there are a few bits that got left off the DVD version that make the tapes a better deal, and a lot of libraries have them.
To use the Triton as a mitre saw you can set the saw up in overhead mode, and bolt a slab of MDF to the table top from underneath, then drop the table so the angled blade just hits the MDF slab. You can also set up a limited compound angle capacity with this setup, it just won't be very adjustable.

I think the 2000 seems the best option. I hve been looking around a bit and most others appear to need a forklift to move them!

About the best alternative for a Triton 2000 is the Triton Mk3.

Hey Geoff,
Spoken like a true believer
But I think you might just be right on that one...... doesn't seem to be any real alternatives that are a reasonable price, portable etc etc....
Will sit back and hunt for someone putting them out on sale.... always the optimist.

Glenn, at some point in the next 12 months, my WC2000, triton saw, and possibly router table will be coming on the market. I won't be looking for a lot of money for them, so keep an eye out in the For Sale section.
Have to deal with knee replacement operation in 4 days time, get over 12 weeks of rehab, order new jet supersaw, and when its going, so will the WC2000.

Hey Geoff
Maybe you could do a deal with the surgeon re your saw ) they might want to upgrade before the knee operation........
All the best for that one, I know a few friends incl my Mother who have had it done and never looked back.
