Default Alternatives to Triton Workcentre 2000?

I'd love to have a Triton Workcentre (2000 series) to use my circular saw as an alternative to a table saw while I save up for a proper machine. But they're no longer in production and the workcentres Triton makes now are designed for their power tools only.

Is there an alternative to the Triton Workcentre that I would be able to use? Or would I be better off making something myself?

And while I am thinking of it, are Triton Workcentres accurate? I can't help but think that they might not be especially accurate due to the light sheet metal construction (which would lead to vibrations and therefore inaccuracies).

This is basically a double post of sorts - I posted it in the wrong section originally as I misread woodturning for woodworking... That thread has been reported though!

I have been using the 2000 work cCentre for many years, Once setup it is a great product. It does take some work to ensure that it is setup properly. ( got mine when it was built here in Australia), and i have upgraded it over the years, to have it as correct as possible. which is really near to true.

I would myself suggest do get one it.

I moved on from a Triton to a Dewalt contractors saw - although they don't get much love here, for me, the Dewalt was a significant step up. I find it easier to setup and more accurate plus I can use dado blades - it also feels safer and has better dust extraction. Why I'd like a cabinet saw I just don't have the room - so the Dewalt was a good compromise.

That's a good price; a pity the height winder kit wasn't fitted because the dust bag makes changing the blade height a PITA of truly heroic proportions. Like the current owner you'll end up keeping the blade at the maximum projection to avoid it.

As stated above, keep your eye on eBay and also Gumtree.

I'm new here and just came across this thread. Captain Caveman if you are still looking for a Triton 2000, I may have one available soon.
I'm considering an upgrade to a Harvey Table Saw.
I'm at Hervey Bay in Qld.

I have had a Triton since 1983 and now regard it as superceded technology - good as a fill in until you get a real table saw! The Triton 2000 with bells and whistles is probably the best choice; the more extras then really the cheaper it will be. Should be plenty available.

Suggest that you be pro-active and advertise that you want to buy a Triton 2000 plus accessories:
    • In MARKET PLACE sction of this forum,
    • On Gumtree,
    • On Trading Post for SA,
    • Perhaps on Fleabay, but I am no longer convinced that it is worth the effort.

That's right Tonyz! And I agree the Trition (of all models!) are just a good as a fill in until you get a real table saw. But it's what I have the room for at the moment. The moment that changes, however...
