belt sander smoking
I have the Triton TA1200BS belt sander and today I plugged it in to use but the switch had been left on, so soon as the power came on the sander shot across the bench and onto the floor.
No physical damage, but it stopped working and smoke and smell from the motor area
Any one what could be damaged and how to fix it.
Thanks

Please don’t have a go yourself; either toss it or take it to a repairer.
If the motor still turns freely by hand then it’s probably a combination of the brushes and the commutator segments scorching. Possibly repairable; maybe just needs the segments cleaning and the brushes bedding but if the commutator needs skimming the job would likely cost as much as the tool. There is a very good chance you are going to end up taking this to the bin; but try a toolshop and see if they would have a quick look and quote for a repair.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

The drop potentially damaged one of the brushes and the burning occurred either before you were able to cut the power or during the subsequent attempts to get it to work.
But that’s hypothetical; “it got dropped and the magic smoke escaped” isn’t a lot to base a diagnosis on... Take it to a toolshop and they should be able to tell you if it’s fixable.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.
