And I just thought it was because GMC liked my website and wanted to be part of it and the only way they could do it was to buy the company.

Gmc
I have bought only 1 GMC product...an electric Tile Cutter ($99)...and I got it for a bathroom renovation...I considered it (and still do) ..a throw away item.
It made it through the job and that's all I wanted, BUT I would not buy any of their products as a long term prospect. I have spoken to people and read too many stories of rubbish quality. I'm glad I already have most of the triton gear I need.
Must make a note to buy any other ORANGE at the Bribane Timber & Wood Show next week before it's too late.

Look on the bright side guys.
Perhaps they will now manufacture GMC products in the Australian factory and not that country they have previously.
Think of it the handbooks will be in English not a translation to English.woody U.K.

(I would mention that we in England never see Austrlian apples or Australian butter anymore, I think it has probably got something to do with high prices)woody U.K.

Isn't GMC an Australian company??
Shouldn't we be glad that Triton is staying in Aussie hands, not being flogged of overseas?
Cheers,
Andrew

GMC ~$A300,000,000 in Turnover in 2004 & 24 x 7 support
I'm a very satisfied Triton owner of almost the complete Triton range.
I've recently experienced GMC circular saw, wood lathe ($69 from Bunnings) and lawn edger. Also, excellent customer service via the almost 24 x 7 help-line.
Caution: The following information has been found on the web and may not be accurate.
The purpose of listing it here is to give some context to the acquisition of Triton from Hills by GMC.
The following are some interesting points about GMC:
- Formed in 1997 by two disgruntled ex-Black & Decker employees - Peter Hosking and Tony D'Antonio.
- Won the export and wholesale category of the Age/Dun & Bradstreet Victorian Business Awards for 2004.
- Located in Tullamarine Victoria, Australia.
- Estimated Turnover increased almost $A60 million in 2004 to approx $A300 million pa.
- GMC operates in 14 countries, has a workforce of 140 – 85 per cent of them Australian.
- GMC's supplier companies employ about 15,000 people.
- GMC CEO bid $101,000 in an auction, to aid the Tsunami appeal earlier this year, for a drive in the celebrity challenge at the F1 Grand Prix.
Triton were acquired in Sep 1999 by Hills Industries, when they had estimated annual sales of about $A20,000,000, for "an eight figure sum". (Triton had sold about $A300,000,000 since George Lewin appeared on the ABC program - "The Inventors" in 1976.) The Hills' media release stated that "our plan is to keep the Triton team focused on new product development and new market opportunities".
Now ... I'm off to dream about a 3 hp Triton Lathe and other exciting possibilities. I personally feel the acquisition by GMC will be a good thing. It will bring many advantages to Triton, including increased volume, global manufacturing and after-all, they live in the same town as Triton.
