Ever since Triton was sold to Hills the company basically stagnated under the rule of accountants. Profits had to be maintained and R & D and quality control suffered.

Sure, after sales service remained to fix the myriads of little problems ( like ruler arm printing, nuts missing, adjustment knobs needing filing down etc ) but this was never needed under George's ownership. Also under his reign there were very few bargains to be had from factory seconds compared to now.

For a company to remain innovative and improve existing products and introduce new ones it needs to be under entrepreneurial ownership and not accountants. That's why it may be a good thing that GMC bought it.

Umm, actually it's because you joined a little thing that was then called The Common Market.

The higher prices were the result of the EU tarrifs.

    Off thread,

But Barry, I drove through Batlow nsw earlier this year and there were enough apple orchards producing fruit to cover the whole of Kent and other English counties. The amount of plastic covering was enough to be seen from the moon

I voted no to the EU in the 70's and I would again now. The French most probably are the culprits on agriculture and farm pricing policies.

That was January, things change quickly here, you should see it now. You'll have to come back next year and have another look.

    jow104,

Did you catch a look at the Big carved tree near the Bakery in Batlow. My wife and I had brekky at the bakery on holiday last year and nearly ran into it with my car when we left....(sorry I waiver from the topic)

Mate, you didn't see the ones that they had pulled out.....

Everywhere I go, (I guess it's 'cos I'm a turner & I know what fruit wood turns like) I see fruit trees that have been pulled out, stacked up & burnt...

Apple trees, pear trees, citrus tress, (not up here), avacardo trees, mango trees, lychee trees.... it's a crying shame seeing all that nice timber going up in anti-carbon-credits.

Just on the plastic comment... if you'd have come north you'd have seen our mosquito net trees... we have farms with acres of net over the trees to keep the fruit bats out, it looks like we actually grow nets on trees.

So Cliff mate... you see all that and as a turner you dont have a nice chain saw a ute or car with tailer attached a nice friendly demeanor plastered on your dial waltz up to the owner BEFORE he lights the match and say "Oi mate yer reckon I could rip a bit of that wood out first tell yer what mate you let me take a couple of limbs and such and I will guarantee to return in a couple of months time with a nice bowl or something for you... no worries mate I will make sure its nicely stacked when Im finished... thank you mate!" Once you got a leg in go for broke and take as much as will fit in the ute or trailer!! TADA!!! easy as mate

Have a go most orchardists are pretty good people or so Ive found in my wanderings! My new chainsaw has taken pride of place over my old buggared one in the back of the F100 where she will remain as I wander about checkin all the timber around the place... a tad of prunin here a tad of cuttin there a bit of windfall here a tad of someones garden trees... eerr oops I meant bush trees!

Seriously though why not ask them if its okay to take a bit if theyre going to burn it offer a turning for their kindness?

    Exclamation Is it TRUE?????

    Back ON topic! :=)

    Is the document genuine?

    Reasons for my question

Neither Triton or Hills have made any announcement - Hills is a listed public Company (ASX Code = HIL).

    "RE: Acquisition of Triton Woodworking
Global Machinery Company GMC is proud to advise the acquisition of Triton Woodworking & Design to our product portfolio."

Triton is actually operating as Triton Manufacturing & Design Co. Pty. Ltd.

"The acquisition of the company ... allows us to get a foothold into sales of professional and industrial powertools, benchtop tools and woodworking models." ???

"For supporting retailers Triton already has approx 20-30 new products destined for release over the back half of 2005." This seems unusual - refer Sturdee's observation above.

"The new Triton products will be targeted directly at professional and woodworking users."

"For further information or to book your confidential meeting to view the new items calls David Flintoff on 8346 1100." This is main GMC number - not a direct line?

Has anyone been able to confirm the document?

    What do you think?
