Hmmm... discontinued TRA001 $399.
New TRA001B $435
What do people think of the "competitive" prices?
Don't get me wrong - I am very happy that Triton still exists. But I am worried by exclusive distribution deals. What possible motivation will Carbatec have to ever have a sale or offer discounts?

People will only buy at a certain price. If the hitachi or makita are a lot cheaper they just won't sell the triton. True it's not ideal to have only one triton seller, but most people are only loyal to that brand up to a certain price point.

I'd say that Triton have lost a lot of customers here thanks to the recent shenanigans, lack of support, etc. Several posters have commented that they'll never buy Triton again, and I'd add my name to that list. They may have done me over once, but they certainly won't be doing it again.
Cheaper? I'd happily pay more for Makita or Hitachi, and my next router certainly won't be a Triton.

Well picking up a TRA001 for $399 seems OK to me.
Triton® TRA001 3.25 hp Router - LIMITED STOCK RUNOUT SPECIAL : CARBA-TEC
The Makita version is $588
SYDNEY TOOLS - Makita 12mm Plunge Router - Soft Start And Electronic Brake
If the new model TRA001B is $435, it is still $150 cheaper.
If I was in the market I would certainly be looking closely at the Triton.
Cheers

Ddisappointing prices there -still cheaper to import from the UK on some items. Still, presumably they are not made in Australia, so importing to here may cost more. Hope they are not price gouging.

Scribbly Gum...
Thanks for your support. And as I'm sure you know...there is NO comparison between the two routers. The Triton router is the ONLY router designed for table mounting and in unmatched in features based on this usage. If you want a cheaper handheld router...there are plenty of options out there. Some of them maybe future Triton models...and maybe not. Make your choice based on features and total offer...not price alone.
The new model TRA001B will have the through the table height winder included (BTW.. on the MOF001 you needed to purchase the template guide kit, to get the winder). The new model will also include both the 1/4" & 1/2" collets (not a reducing collet).
John G's comments are disappointing but I guess a little understandable. We all know what exclusive deals have the potential to do to pricing, but this is no 'exclusive' deal in the way we have seen before.
We will be relying heavily on support from independent hardware operators to sell the products on our behalf. We are but 8 stores spread across a wide area, so I say keep an eye on your local major independents for Triton products. They may be willing to discount below our RRP pricing.
We have worked long and hard to come up with RRP prices that are as close as possible to the old Triton RRP prices. FYI, the actual RRP on the old TRA001 was $449. The actual selling price was driven down by aggressive marketing...look where that got the business. The Workcentre and Router Table products are no longer being made 'in-house', but are now being made by a professional metal stamping factory in Melbourne. This means that there is another mouth to feed between raw material, and finished product, and so we have seen a large increase in the COST of the finished product. We have kept the RRP in check as much as possible.
We appreciate the feedback, keep it coming.

If the old TRA001 still suffers from some of the poor component quality mentioned on this forum then it's still not a bargain.
Hope the new model is better in this respect.Cheers, Ern

A feature set is no substitute for reliability. The triton routers had a number of common failures.
I'd rather fiddle with a makita and have it start than have a feature laden triton that doesn't work, so your not comparing apples with apples. In the end the customer will make a decision what they are willing to pay.
Me, I've already got 2 triton routers and have no need for more. If they break and I can't get parts a makita or hitachi will be in my future...I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

Damian, have you had problems with your Triton Routers? I am interested to know if they have issues. I belong to the Hastings Woodworkers Guild and quite a few of the members there have them. They swear by them and rate them very highly. It sounds as though yours are still giving you good service. The new pricing on these Routers makes them extremely attractive. I am sorely tempted.
