    Default Chassis clamps

    Hi

I just bought a used Triton 2000 and found that the chassis clamps to hold the saw in place just slide on off, no thread hold whatsoever.

I read that somebody re-tapped them for a larger screw, and wanted to ask if i could use the screw itself as a tap as i do not have a tap and die set.

Or is there a better solution?

    thanks Arif

Hi arif, I'm afraid the short answer is NO! However, metric fractional drills and appropriate size taps are readily available at any decent tool shop (have a look at McJing). You don't have to purchase anything to drive the tap just insert it in your drill chuck and drive the chuck by hand. Works great and quite easy to drive straight. I'm not familiar with what size these machine screws are, but I guess they screw in to a pressed sheet metal? You should only increase the size by the bare minimum to preserve as much of the threadable (is that even a word?) material as possible. You'll be surprised at how easy this job is to do.

    Cheers,
    David
