Hi guys, this is my first go, so treat me kindly. Our Mens Shed has inherited a GMC router & disc/belt sander. Router needs a 1/2" to 1/4" collet and sander needs a drive belt. Can anyone help with a possible source either new or sh. Or is their collet interchangeable with another make?
Thanks for reading.

The 1/2" to 1/4" reducer you can buy from most places that sell router bits - it should be a standard item doesn't have to be GMC. Timbecon have them: http://www.timbecon.com.au/products/...ies-344_0.aspx

Thanks guys for the links, just a bit concerned that the GMC reducer is somewhat bell shaped on the outside, whereas the universal ones are straight sided. I will test a straight one, as my Makita uses them.

All the reducer is doing is sleeving a 1/4" shaft so that it fits a 1/2" collet. It should just be a simple tube with a 1/2" OD and a 1/4" ID. Some of them have a flange so that they don't disappear into the collet.

Also the multi slot collets grip the router bit shaft better than the single slot type.

Make sure it is half inch and not 16mm as I had trouble with a replacement collet that was 16mm.
The router bit would work it's way out and make a mess of the job.

I'm running a mcjing 1/2 - 1/4 collet reducer in my GMC router, and have no issue.
You should be able to get a belt, at an industrial belt supplier.
EDIT: I googled 'industrial belts nsw' and got a huge number of hits.Last edited by chrisb691; 15th June 2009 at 05:49 PM. Reason: added info

Thanks guys, our shed opens tomorrow & will take the 1/2" collet from my Makita and try it out.
The belt issue seems a bit harder, so shall take the original ( broken) to Albury on next visit

Hi guys I must apologies for my mistake in yesterday's post concerning a 16mm reducer.
It should read, make sure it is 1/2" and not 12mm.
I discovered this morning that my Makita router parts list quotes both sizes and
I have obviously picked the wrong one.
Roger Gifkin quotes a 1/2- 1/4 inch collett reducer on his web site.
