Question dust extraction in crosscut mode

I can utilise the dust bag under the trition workstation when in rip mode, but does anyone have any hints for stopping the layer of dust I now have on every tool, every stored item etc in my workshop, that is generated from cutting in cross cut mode?

    Thanks

no way to really stop it in corsscut mode.

Your best option would be to cover all your other tools

Geoffrey, save up for an extension table - then you can use the bag and overhead dust collector - very little dust around workshop area! I haven't use 'crosscut mode' for five years now!

Johnno, How does the extension table help. I oftem cut long lengths of timber eg, 190 x 19mm pine and thinner 90 x 35 and thinner 45 x 35.

I thought the extension tables were for sheets.

Geoffrey, you will find that the extension table/s do everything that you can in the crosscut mode and then some. I cut picture frames from mainly recycled material, and have handled material so long that I've had to turn the table sideways under the carport - with a (Triton of course) roller support under the far end of the wood - this requires an asistant to make sure that all of the wood moves at the same angle, but it works!

does the wood clamp to the extension table to keep it square to the blade?

Geoffrey, yes you can clamp it to the extension table, and you will find that long timber is easier to handle with the table than in crosscut mode - you have more places to clamp it to!
I guess that much of the point of using the extension table/s is to cut your wood to a manageable length before doing anything more to it!

Understand a bit better now after going and looking at the pictures on the Triton web site. There is one of a fella with a longer narrow piece of timber cutting it shorter.

Does the extention table take long to attach coz I would be getting a little crowded if I wher to leave it connected all the time?

Also is the setup time of the table, and (guessing from the picture) the time spent un clamping - moving the board into the table - reclamping - cutting shorter - unclamping - moving board - reclamping-cutting etc etc comparible to the time to Take off dust bag - convert workcentre to crosscut mode and when finished convert back to ripp mode and refit dustbag? (which still leaves me with my dust problem)

    Thanks
    Geoffrey

Geoffrey, I can erect the table in about two minutes. It would certainly take me longer than that to remove my dust bag, remove the table and re-position it and set up for cross-cutting.

I use quick-action clamps, and find it quite attractive to be able to rip an old floor board into frame sizes, then cross-cut to manageable length for mitring without changing any settings!

in crosscut mode, can the vacuum hose of the dust extraction be coonected directly to the saw dust outlet, the saw is a triton with this port built in?

Geoffrey, sorry but I don't know that one - I have a Makita, not a Triton.
Hopefully someone else can tell you.

    Geoff,

I see no reason why you couldn't. Give it a try and make a "test cut" without the saw turned on, so that if it gets hung up anywhere, no damage is done.
