    Default Fingers

I was down at the hand clinic at Royal North Shore Hospital last Tuesday (my 5 y/o son had done some damage to his hand with some plate glass from a cabinet) Anyway I digress
There was a young chap (painter early 30s) with the most horrific cuts to his left hand, palm side running along the fleshy bits near the 1st joints from the palm and further nicks towards the top of the fingers.
He was lucky he still has all his fingers.
He'd apparently left his left hand on the Triton whilst lowering some stock to the floor. Hand moved over spinning blade, the Triton didn't have it's guard.
I know mine was always in the way as well and could never get it to be in-line with the saw blade. So it was never on as well.
This is meant as a word of warning.
He refrained from telling me what he said as the saw cut his fingers ... there were children present. He also didn't tell me what his SHMBO said.

PS my son has had his stitches out and will be ok.

Perhaps the issue is he left the saw running while he wasn't watching it.

I know it's not politically correct but I often work without guards on machinery, but I am meticulous about switching off stuff I'm not using right now, and not allowing ANY distractions.

I am sorry to hear about his injuries though. Happens a lot, too often.

no I didn't (should have), I think his SWMBO gave him enough stick

but I did suggest that a colour photo of his hand should be included in the Triton instruction book and even other tablesaws

the staff at RNSH said they see a lot of this especially after holidays and long weekends

Ouch was right I could feel it just by looking
