GMC is back?
I went to explore the new (woolies) Masters store down here in Melb today.
In among the tools were a whole bunch of what looked like homebrand tools branded "909".
They were all the familiar dark blue plastic, with features like laser guides and magnesium components. They were spread throughout the store, and covered things like saws, thicknessers, wetstone grinders and spotlights.
Now I'm obviously not 100% sure, but it certainly looks like all the old GMC patents/designs/suppliers have found a new home. Even the "909" printing looked like it was in the same "GMC" font.

Interesting - it might be that someone has bought up all the old GMC tooling?

GMC Revisited
In the garden tool category, I noticed about 6 months ago that the GMC 18 volt rechargeable blower had reappeared, branded as Ozito. This was the 3-5 hour charge version which gave good performance & battery life.
Before it's demise, GMC had replaced this product with a remodelled 1 hour charge version, which was a dud - the batteries didn't last very long.
Ex GMC products might still be made in the same factory in China, under different ownership. Changing badges wouldn't be too difficult.
It seems that exclusive access to a brand is regarded as an advantage by hardware chains, so this could be a reason for the appearance of a new brand at Masters.

Ahhhh... brings back fond memories of the GMC warranty (before they tightened up on it, primarily due to buggers like me )

I thought they had a resemblance to GMC. Not all their gear was rubbish and we can thank them for forcing other manufacturers to rethink their price goughing policy.
For those who do not have a Masters store ( Woolies ) the 909 brand stands for ninehundred and nine days warranty.
I am waiting for somebody to put their toe in the water first. I have reached the stage I did not think possible. I am satisfied with my tool collection. Having a break from this forum helped a lot.
I had to go cold turkey but finally do not need a fix any more.
