GMC 9" Angle Grinder brush replacement
I'm wondering if anybody can offer some advice for a good friend of mine who owns the 9" GMC Angle Grinder featured below. I'm hoping somebody knows the answer for a couple of reasons. Firstly the bloke is a good friend of mine and secondly he has borrowed my 9" grinder until the GMC beast can be fixed

The problem is with the brushes. It has a feature, which I have never seen before, that identifies by a light when the brushes are due for replacement. This light is illuminating and the grinder will not turn on.
It would appear that the brushes are hardly worn as evidenced by the pic below. They are worn when the cove shaped groove is used up as there is a lug in the machine which prevents further advancement of the brush. This is also why we can't just replace the brushes with another the same size. They have to have that groove.
I am also presuming that GMC parts are not readily available, but if that is not the case one of you may be able to direct me to a spare parts stockist.
It seems likely that there is a fault with the brush detection device, but without replacing the brushes, which would ordinarily be a reasonably cheap move, we can't verify that.
All suggestions (well the constructive ones
) greatly received. I am hoping the pix upload ok as this is the first time of submiting pix under the revised forum.

They have a website for contact details.

Anybody with thoughts or experience on the brush indicator malfunctioning.
My mate is anxious to repair the grinder or replace it as he is in the process of constructing his house. He is using the angle grinder to cut chamfers on some manufactured bricks, which I think are called "Timbercrete." The composition of the bricks destroyed the blade on his SCM saw with the first cut so now he is using a brick saw and the angle grinder with a diamond blade for the smaller mitre cuts.
He is building a house comprised of five hexagons so the walls have to be mitred in. I've posted a couple of pix just for interest.
