    Default Gmc spur drive

Hi all, I'm trying to find a new spur drive for my gmc lathe, but not having much luck. I've tried carbatec and they came up with a solution, but an expensive solution. Has anyone got any idea where I could find one? The thread is 3/4 16
    Any help would be appreciated
    Cheers chalkey

Hi Chalkey, the cheapest way that I can think of, is if you've a mate with a metal lathe get a spur drive and get him to machine a 3/4 X 16 thread on the taper section and buy/make a long 3/4 X 16 nut screw together, job done. Another alternative is to make a plate to bolt onto the faceplate and fit the spur drive to it.

    Default DIY spur drive

Heres a photo of a DIY spur drive made by purchasing a nut and modifying with a hacksaw.

The pointy bit in the centre was made on a grinding wheel and screwed+epoxied into the nut.

    Might give you some ideas.

Alternately Kryns idea of finding a person with a metal lathe nearby might be achieved by posting your location in the metalwork forum and asking for somebody nearby to help.

You could also put your query in the Woodturning forum https://www.woodworkforums.com/f8 There is usually a good response regarding this type of lathe there.
