Is GMC-Triton gear the same High Quality as the Triton Saw and Router?
Hi all,
Seems I've been away forever.
I was happy when GMC came onto the Tools market thru Bunnings.
Lazer this. Lazer that. Inexpensive. Cool.
Bring up the standards quality thru competition, etc.
Not sure what happened with Hills and if GMC bought Hills as well.
The new Triton products seem to have been turning up so fast, in comparison to the past,
that I have doughts as to the quality and design of the new products.
To me, the bandsaws look exactly like every other rebadged bandsaw.
Disapointing, as I truely look foward to, and must admit now being spoiled by, Tritons improvements on all new products.
I truely hope someone will reply with the news that all new products are designed by the same Triton engineers.
With the Triton quality as well.
And be accurate and true. And not a prank.
No, I've changed my mind, so go ahead, lie to me.
If not, I'll have to find where carba-tec went and start comparing prices and quality again. That would be a shame.
------
Took about 30 mins for GMC to sort out a replacement face shield for the dust helmet. Decent price though.
But its gonna take 2 weeks to get it. Instead of 3 days.
And they wouldn't let me pick it up.
Sounded like any other call centre.
I really miss being able to drive down, have a chat with the spare parts guy, and see whats available second hand.
------
Tried to ring Hills Discount Centre three times this morning but never got to speak to anyone. Thanks,
Barry G. Sumpter

I have a GMC cordless drill that is marvellous, a little 'kat' sander that had a faulty switch that was replaced free that I'm happy with. If I had my time over I would not have bought the GMC grinder or the bench drill stand. 1/3 horsepower is absolutely gutless. But you learn by your mistakes.

Triton was a moribund, old company whose day had well and truly passed. One can buy a table saw, router, biscuit joiner etc for a fraction of the base Wc200 plus, $plus, $plus that old George demanded.
Hills Industries probably gave Triton away - to a young and vibrant business; GMC.
GMC have re-vitalised the brand, to such an extent that even the old Triton tragics are voicing guarded approval. Just look at what they have got Bunnies to carry - minus the dust and sad sack hand written price cards.
The brand survives and it seems that the quality remains.Bodgy

"Triton was a moribund, old company whose day had well and truly passed. "
Thats certainly your opinion.
And I certainly don't agree.
The superior design of the respirator, Circular Saw, and Router are evidence.
The jigsaw looks pretty cool. But I don't see any of the Triton signs of improvements.
I'll have a closer look at Bunnings.
Although I just checked last week end and didn't see anything different.
bazThanks,

Badging is the name of the game in manufacturing these days. But don't be fooled by that.
Some companies simply put their logo on anything they can buy out of China cheaply.
Others, and I would put the new Triton in this category, look for products with a point of difference, or go with spec's to manufacturers in China and have products made with a point of difference.
The bandsaw is a case in point. It is not simply another re-badged bandsaw. It is quite different from any I have seen. If the one I saw a few months back in Triton's Melbourne factory is the one they introduce, it will have some unique features.
Since I was sworn to keep the details to myself, you will have to wait until it's released.

Just received my Face Sheild.
I think the call entre should have said "2 day to 2 weeks delivery".
I have no dought this came from the Triton Spare Parts in Melbourne.
I've only seen the photo of the BandSaw on the New Titon site.
And to me, it looks like just another rebadge.
But very happy to find out that the one still in design/manufacturing has some unique features.
Hopefully, they've designed their own and didn't start with a cheapie and added a few uniquie features (like coloring it orange)
just to make it Triton.
Still got the itch for that plung drill. lol
Event thou the Precision Router hasn't been out of the box since I bought it.Thanks,

Is there a roster for duty duckhead on the forum?
Seems like as soon as one stops or is sent on a holiday someone else starts.
To whoever is keeping the roster - can you tell me when its my turn and i will stay away that week

Seems his post was deleted - but I saw it and sent reputation accordingly.
barrysumpter (and BarryGSumpter too), you called for opinions and received same. No need to go on the attack if they happen to disagree.
And Stuart was correct BTW, we've done this subject to death. Maybe that's why this thread hasn't received many replies. If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

It will be interesting to see how the Triton prices compare to the Scheppach prices, which I have always found quite high.

The reason I ask is that when training sales staff, I want them to be able to match the needs of the customer with the capabilities of the tool. Have not used the 1/3 horse power drill stand and so I am interested in your experience. If it is only suited for a limited range of uses, then sales staff should be able to explain so, preferably before you take it to the cash register.
