GMC Warehouse for lease
I passed the GMC warehouse on the way to Tullamarine Airport this morning(to see A380 land) and there is a "For Lease" sign on the fence.
Any clues Stuart other than what has been in previous threads about their future??Last edited by Chesand; 22nd October 2008 at 04:25 PM. Reason: Added something to clarify.

I was in Bunnings the other day(wanting a cheap GMC woodlathe which is no longer being made, if anyone has a second hand lathe, let me know! but thats another topic!) and the guy there said they are discontinuing stocking GMC at all soon. That must be a big hit to take for GMC... So that could be something to do with it?

Was in Bunnies today. No more order of GMC gear, apparently Ryobi is what they are pushing now.
"Why?" I asked ignorantly to the young lady at the special orders counter.
"Because the owners of Bunnies now own Ryobi. They want to sell products that they manufacture" - she replied.
That can't be true can it?

Wesfarmers who I think are the owners of Bunnings have enough trouble with one of their problem children the Coles group. If anybody was buying anything it would be the Ryobi buying Bunnings,
But in today's corporate market place there are some strange bedfellows. Maybe Ryobi's parent company did invest in some Wesfarmers shares when they were doing their refinancing arrangements.
Might be one answer to to the Ryobi - GMC debate. If anyone was getting hurt the most by GMC I would suspect that Ryobi would have been bleeding market share to GMC no matter what you think of GMC.
GMC may have aded to their problems but is this the new conspiracy theory. I suspect a search of Wesfarmers share registry might throw up some interesting aspects.
Having said that, while anything is possible, it would not be the global meltdown because this decision was taken at least twelve months ago.Still until we know more I suspect it was just a corporate and marketing decision to go with Ryobi.
Still, to this cynic, it does make some sense and could be a benefit to both parties.
