Default Guide Bushings or adaptor for GMC

I have been battling to get my Leigh Jig to work for a few holidays now (SWMBO laughs as I end up more stressed after a day in the workshop than at work). The main problem has been lack of concentricity of any one of my three fixed base Makita routers (as soon as you change depth they wander off centre).

Anyway Ray in the UK has suggested that any router will work with the Leigh. I have a GMC 1/4" plunge router I'd like to try. But the guide bushings don't fit.

Does anyone know if there is a guide bushing adaptor or even a 'universal" base plate that fits GMC routers to allow use of Porter Cable or Leigh Guide ushings?

If not do they know of a cheap alternative router that I can use with PC style guide bushings?

    Thanks

The biggest problem with the Leigh (and other similar jigs) is that more than half of the router is "over the edge" at the start and finish of the cut. This can lead to a problem with tipping, which ruins the workpiece. Use of the support and vacuum arm on the Leigh eliminates this problem, so that the choice of router does not then depend upon its "tippiness." That's what I meant when suggesting that any router could be used, because the support removes the most common source of trouble which - prior to its invention - was only overcome with a lighter router.

I'm not familiar with your model, but Trend do a Universal Base and other bases for specific routers, all of which take Trend bushings. However, they also sell "US Style" guide bushes, so it may be worth an e-mail to see if they can help.
