Help required
Have just received a GMC 7.25 circular saw, it seems to do the job nicely BUT needs a table. Have a tight budget so the 2000 is out of the ?. Is the compact alright or is the another brand on the market. A router table would be nice but can wait-unfortuntaly. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going out tomorrow to start looking. Thanks

The compact is a great little unit. You can still fit most of the Workcentre type assys onto it (dust bag / bevel rip guide / mini ext table - although the first two have a special version specifically designed for the compact).
You cannot cross-cut with the compact as you can with the 2000 workcentre (ie. with the saw turned up and the timber under the saw)- but with the Compact and a Mini ext table - you can cross-cut with the timber on top (easier and more accurate anyway - and the same way most user of the 2000 would do it).
You cant fit the router table to the compact - but you can always buy the router stand, and have two stand-alone units.
When comparing other units (Ryobi - GMC saw benches etc) compare table size (lead in and lead out distance)- height and safety features.
BIG PLUS - the Compact is a pre assembled unit - pull it out - stick in the legs - mount saw - CUT!
best 'o' luck

I have had a compact saw table for about 18 months now & as I point out to those who prefer the brutish big boofy 2000........ Married up to a good saw and with the addition of the sliding extension table you have an exceptional tool with a realtively small foot print and price.
Catch ya later,
